The blueprint. ~3.2 billion base pairs spread across 23 chromosomes, packaged into chromatin that decides which genes are even readable. African genomes carry variants the global reference panels barely document — and that gap is COBRA Genome's foundation.

TRANSCRIPTION + POST-TRANSCRIPTIONAL MOD
RNA polymerase II reads the template strand and synthesises pre-mRNA. Then comes the editing — a 5' cap is added, introns are spliced out, a poly-A tail is appended, and in some cases bases are chemically modified (m6A). The resulting mature mRNA is far more than just a DNA copy.

The mature transcript exits via a nuclear pore. But mRNA isn't the only RNA in play — microRNAs (miRNA), long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA), and tRNA all cross into the cytoplasm too, each with its own regulatory job. COBRA's RNA-seq pipeline captures every species.

TRANSLATION
Ribosomes thread along the mRNA in 5'→3' direction, reading three nucleotides (a codon) at a time and adding the matching amino acid to a growing polypeptide chain. Roughly 25 amino acids per second, in every active cell, all the time.

PROTEIN + POST-TRANSLATIONAL MOD
The raw polypeptide folds into its 3D tertiary structure, then gets chemically modified — phosphorylation toggles activity, glycosylation marks it for export, ubiquitination tags it for destruction. These modifications are how the same gene can produce proteins doing wildly different things in different cells.

Solely to respond to your enquiry, manage your founding-member reservation, send waitlist updates about COBRA's launch and product milestones, and understand site traffic in aggregate. We do not profile you, do not sell your data, and do not use it for third-party advertising.

Form submissions are stored in Google Cloud Firestore under our Firebase project (operator: Google LLC). Cloudflare Web Analytics is operated by Cloudflare, Inc. Both are bound by enterprise data-processing agreements. Where the storage region is outside South Africa, we rely on the contractual and adequacy safeguards permitted by Section 72 of POPIA for cross-border processing.

// 05 · WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

Nobody outside our two infrastructure providers above. We do not sell, rent, or share your information with marketing networks. We may disclose data only where compelled by South African law or court order, in which case we will inform you unless legally prevented from doing so.

// 06 · HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Investor and founding-kit reservation records are retained for as long as the relationship is active, plus three years thereafter for legitimate accounting and tax purposes. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion. Cloudflare analytics data is anonymised and aggregated on a six-month rolling window.

At any time, free of charge, you may:

  • Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Ask us to correct or update inaccurate or incomplete information.
